Costa Rica

Dates: March 11-19, 2017
(Spring Break)

The College of Human Sciences is offering a unique opportunity for Human Sciences freshmen to embark on a study abroad experience in beautiful Costa Rica during Spring Break 2017.

  • Participating students will enroll in HS 2080: Introduction to International Experiences, a one credit hour course during their spring semester, that will introduce them to the culture and landscape of Cost Rica. Earn course credit while learning about the country's biodiversity and sustainability. This is an action packed itinerary, from zip lining and white water rafting to kayaking and snorkeling to explore the beauty of two regions in beautiful Costa Rica!
  • The estimated total cost is $3,100, which includes program fees (airfare, accommodations, and daily meals), insurance, and tuition for one credit hour. Scholarships are available! The first 15 students to register will be eligible to receive a $1,200 scholarship. Students must have a 2.5 GPA and be in a major within the College of Human Sciences at the end of the fall 2016 semester in order to receive the scholarship, which will be applied to student bursar accounts at the beginning of the spring 2017 semester. Because registering students will have to start making payments toward the program upon registration, the scholarship will serve as a form of reimbursemen.  Update: we have 15 students enrolled so the scholarships have been claimed. However, students that participate in this experience are eligible to apply for a separate scholarship from the College of Human Sciences and also several scholarships are available through the OSU Study Abroad Office.
  • To register and reserve your space for this experience, contact Elizabeth Whitfield at or 405-744-9531 or click here and select the "Enroll Now" tab. Registering students will pay a $95 enrollment fee and can get set up on a payment plan (the monthly payment plan is recommended). The deadline to register for this experience is October 31, 2016, but space is limited to 25 students. Enrollment will be opened up to sophomores and juniors on September 1 if spots are still available. There are restrictions on cancellations:

If you are interested but not yet ready to sign up, you can get on the interest list by emailing Elizabeth Whitfield at
